Starbreed Resolve and Assertion

Aether’s personal stats under the Aether tab

Starbreed Resolve and Assertion

Find the stats first

New pilots often ask how to “get” Resolve and Assertion. They are not random drops or shop items. They are Aether’s personal attributes visible under the Aether tab in the hub. Community answers on itch match the design: investing here changes boost/health behavior. This guide explains what each stat does in the released game and how to plan Female Aether access.

Earn points, then allocate in the Aether tab

The full 1.0 loop works in two steps that confuse new players:

  1. Earn Resolve and Assertion points by completing missions and stages. Mission payouts feed a pool you spend—not a hidden inventory drop.
  2. Allocate those points in the lobby Aether tab toward Resolve (max HP / Will and feminine appeal) or Assertion (boost / thrust recharge and masculine appeal).

Itch community threads confirmed this lobby flow after players searched ally Affinity panels for the wrong UI. If your numbers look stuck at zero, finish a stage clear, return to hub, open the Aether tab, and spend newly earned points. Re-read Troubleshooting if saves fail to persist after allocation.

How you earn and spend points

Completing missions and stages awards points you can invest—not loot that randomly rolls Resolve or Assertion. After a run, bank whatever the stage payout grants, return to the lobby, and open the Aether tab (same place highlighted in Getting Started for first-time hub navigation). From there you allocate into Resolve OR Assertion with deliberate clicks; the game does not assign stats for you.

Launch-week itch comments confirm what early pilots reported: finish content, earn spendable points, then invest under Aether. If a number looks stuck, you likely have unspent currency rather than a broken stat. For protagonist-specific context—form swap, presentation, and how Aether differs from allies—read Aether Guide. When allocation UI misbehaves after a patch, cross-check Troubleshooting before assuming a save is corrupt.

Stat definitions (wiki standard)

To keep every page consistent:

  • Assertion — raises boost / thrust recharge and masculine attractiveness / appeal.
  • Resolve — raises maximum HP (Will) and feminine attractiveness / appeal.
  • Female Aether — unlocks around 50 Resolve. You may switch back and forth afterward.

Developer changelogs noted Assertion was tuned to raise thrust recharge rate rather than only max thrust—so the fantasy is recovery and uptime, not a one-time pool inflate.

Why the split exists

Starbreed wants Aether builds to feel like identity choices. Assertion-leaning pilots weave with W boost more often, chaining barrel rolls and reposition tools from Controls. Resolve-leaning pilots eat mistakes on dense stages such as neon corridors or cavern routes and unlock the feminine form path. Appeal stats feed the dating presentation side without replacing per-ally Affinity.

Build templates

Boost acrobat (Assertion focus)
Prioritize Assertion until boost recovery feels invisible. Pair with weapons that reward aggressive lane changes (Weapons Tier List). Bring allies whose actives assume you can reposition (Abilities).

Anchor pilot (Resolve focus)
Stack Resolve toward the 50 gate, unlock Female Aether if desired, then keep enough HP to learn late bosses from Boss Guides. Still buy some Assertion so you are not glued in place.

Hybrid 50/50
Hit ~50 Resolve for form flexibility, then sprinkle Assertion until recharge stops causing deaths. This is the default recommendation from Getting Started.

Interaction with other systems

  • Credits shop: Weapons do not replace Resolve/Assertion. Buy damage after you can survive—Credits Shop.
  • Party comps: Tankier Aether can afford flashier, riskier allies; fragile Aether wants peel—Party Comps.
  • Trials: EX passives after Impregnation Trials change math; revisit stats after big passive unlocks.
  • Data Chips: Unrelated directly, but longer survival helps chip hunts—Data Chips.

Female Aether notes

You start male. At about 50 Resolve, the interface allows swapping to Female Aether. Developer commentary frames female scenes as lighter side content relative to male Aether’s volume—plan emotionally, not only mechanically. Form swapping is free thereafter; you are not locked forever.

Troubleshooting

“I cannot find Resolve.” Open the Aether tab, not the ally Affinity panels.
“Boost never returns.” Raise Assertion; stop panic-holding W.
“I die in two hits.” Raise Resolve; review rolls on Controls.
“Female option greyed out.” Check Resolve ≈ 50 and story UI requirements.

Investment pacing across the campaign

Early: buy enough Resolve to stop embarrassing two-shots while you learn telegraph language. Mid: push Resolve to the Female Aether gate if you want that form, then splash Assertion until boost uptime stops causing chip-hunt failures. Late: rebalance after EX passives and weapon upgrades change how long you stay in risky lanes.

Write your current numbers in the Party Planner. Pilots who “remember” their stats usually do not.

Appeal versus Affinity myths

Masculine or feminine appeal leans presentation; it does not auto-complete Pix’s 75 conversation. You still need party slots and talks. Use appeal as flavor on top of the real bond system documented in Affinity.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common Starbreed questions.

Where are Resolve and Assertion in Starbreed?

Under the Aether tab. Earn points from mission clears, then allocate there. They are protagonist stats, not ally Affinity.

What does Assertion do?

It improves boost/thrust recharge and masculine appeal.

What does Resolve do?

It raises max HP/Will and feminine appeal, and gates Female Aether near 50.

Can I respec later?

Plan as if investment is meaningful; check current build UI for any refund tools after patches.

Do these stats replace Affinity?

No. Affinity is per ally. Resolve/Assertion only shape Aether.

Is Female Aether required for endings?

It is an optional form path. See Endings for flag specifics with spoilers.
