One chip per level — mark them off

Starbreed Data Chip Checklist

How chips work

Each Starbreed level hides one Data Chip tied to Pom rewards and bonus content. Read hints in the H-scene room, then replay. Primer: Data Chips Guide. This checklist is mechanical—no adult scene text.

Anti-frustration rules

  1. Never chip-hunt during a blind boss first try (Bosses).
  2. Always read the hint before the third failed replay.
  3. Separate Affinity nights from chip nights (Affinity Checklist).
  4. Re-check after patches (Patch Notes).

Naming rows your way

If your galaxy map uses slightly different labels, rename freely. The important invariant is one chip per combat stage you can select. Secondary story locales without chips can be omitted rather than forcing false empties.

When a chip feels impossible, record the attempted method in Notes (“boost lane left,” “destroy crates first”) before you look up external spoilers. Your future attempts get faster when notes exist.

Reward awareness

Update the Pom reward log whenever the hub presents new chip-related unlocks. That feedback loop keeps chip nights motivating instead of chore-like.

Checklist closing note

Finish hints before replays, and finish bosses before chip greed. Update Pom reward rows whenever the hub surprises you—that feedback keeps exploration fun. For movement help, return to Controls and Resolve and Assertion.

Chip weekend plan

Friday: solve any unfinished boss that gates a chip planet. Saturday: read all pending H-scene room hints in one hub sitting and write method guesses in the Notes column. Sunday: execute two chip hunts max—quality over burnout.

If a chip still refuses to appear, change movement stats before changing guides. Assertion and brake control solve more “missing chip” tickets than spoiler maps. Keep Pom reward logging current so the weekend feels like progress even when a single chip stays stubborn.

Why the checklist beats memory

Starbreed’s stage list is long enough that “I already grabbed that chip” becomes a lie you tell yourself after a week away. The table exists to remove doubt. When you return from an Affinity sprint or a shop binge, scan the Chip found column before launching a random replay. Empty boxes are tonight’s candidates; filled boxes are free time for Boss Guides practice or Credits Shop farming instead.

Also remember the release context while you collect: the full game is out on Steam and itch.io as a single-player campaign. There is no multiplayer partner to spot chips for you, so method notes in the final column are your second player. Write messy notes. Future you will thank present you when Zol’gan’s gimmick fight is no longer eating your attention span.
